Recently, Airtel officially unveiled the "6gb for N 1500" data plan usable on all devices and even PC. Being a long time user of Airtel services, I knew that boldly calling it a “BB Plan” involves some terms of services which Airtel is notorious for.
Let’s see some of the fact about this Airtel 6 GB for N1500 BB plan and why I would still go ahead and subscribe to it.
1. Eligibility
It is true that Airtel stated very clearly that the package is for "special privileged" meaning that it won't be available for many airtel customers to enjoy BUT the fact is that 80% of airtel lines are eligible for it.
To be very sure before you buy the credit, dial *440*161# and if you get the “insufficient Balance” message, it means you are in otherwise, stick to the Android Plan.
2. It's a Blackberry Plan
This is where most people get it all wrong. Airtel said it's a 1+1 blackberry plan BUT you can use it on any other device including PC.
However, the real reason for that message is that since it is a Blackberry plan, experience and charging (which include double charging) might occur in Android and other non-BB devices
3. Data Zapping
Like I said, this is a BB plan so data zapping must occur in other devices; this is the major reason why many people are skeptical about this plan because Airtel has been known for "data zapping".
However, this is a way out to maximize your 6 GB data bundle.
1. Use it only for normal browsing.
2. Never download with this plan, normal browsing does not zap data but downloads does.
3. If you want to download, queue it up during the day and subscribe to the night plan at N25 to download your files.
4. Unlimited Data
According to activation SMS from airtel, they said the plan is an "Unlimited" plan, the unlimited is for BB devices only as it utilize its legendary compression technology to maximize data usage but for Android, you get capped at 6GB
5. IMEI Tweaking
You do not need to change your phone IMEI to that of a blackberry device before you can use this Airtel 6 GB for N1500 BB plan, just subscribe and you are good to go.
6. Speed Throttling
There is no throttled speed while browsing with this plan. It works like a normal Android data plan with good speed.
- Confirm first if you are eligible for the Airtel 6GB For N1500 BB Plan
- If you get the “insufficient Balance” message, go ahead to the next step
- Recharge your airtel SIM with N1500 and dial *440*161# and you will receive confirmation SMS about the successful activation of the plan which valid for 30 days.

So, like I said, I will still subscribe for this plan and use it for my normal browsing while I download at night with the Night Plan BUT I would advise that you use different sim for the two plans.
