This could be the dawn of a new era as Etisalat Nigeria has become the first mobile network in Nigeria to stop all Blackberry Services on their network.
In a notification sent to all their subscribers to the Blackberry service, Etisalat indicates that although the BB services will no longer be available for new subscription, all old subscriptions will be allowed to run till the end of its validity.
Following this move by Etisalat, we will be expecting other networks to follow suit and dump the ailing Blackberry service.
This suspension of Blackberry services has been long expected. It can be recalled that Blackberry has been faced with series of downtrend which led to the dumping of its BB OS and the introduction of Android OS devices in a desperate to remain relevant in the mobile computing world.
Blackberry service was introduced in Nigeria in 2006 at a time when standard internet subscription was still at the high side coupled with poor services. This situation made many people fell in love with it.
