Yeah the J8 Boom came with the much hyped HiOS with neat icons, sleek operation, iPhone-like interface and Tecno claim it has better battery performance, but I’m sorry to disappoint some peeps, no matter the covering it is still a Lollipop Android version 5 and with the hype, it is less likely that Tecno will be offering an upgrade in the nearest future, Meanwhile Tecno W4 comes straight with the latest Android 6 Marshmallow which obviously does not need further hype, performance speaks for itself.

Network

Ok, with the activation of nTel 4G network, everyone is buzzing about 4G devices. Tecno W4 is the first and most affordable Tecno product with 4G LTE network capability. J8 follows

Dimension

Smartphones are getting bigger and Tecno J8 is more of a phablet than a phone, so if you are not really a fan of the extra inches, then Tecno W4 should definitely fit well into your hands

Resolution

Tecno J8 Boom definitely kill it with a decent PPI of 320 on a 5.5’ screen so you actually have a better pixel index on the same 1280x720px on a 5” screen of the Tecno W4

Processor

Tecno J8 Boom sits on top a 1.3GHz Cortex-A53 Mediatek MT6753 octa core processor with a Mali-T720 GPU graphic engine and this is definitely decent for new 3D HD games and HiRe movies, Tecno W4 is not lagging though with a 1.3GHz quad core processor and will certainly run your HD games smoothly.

Camera

J8 Boom carries a 13 MP camera on the rear and it delivers crisp pix while W4 is fitted with a 8 MP rear camera. If you take into consideration that the previously hype Tecno J7 came with the “impressive” 8 MP rear camera, you would realize that you can still get decent shots with Tecno W4 8 MP camera

RAM

Tecno W4 really got it wrong here, the meager 1 GB RAM is really a far cry in 2016 and definitely should have been better, J8 comes with 2 GB RAM

Storage

From experience, this is certainly a match for both phones as 16 GB ROM storage can be expanded with a microSD card up to 128 GB storage capacity.

Connectivity

Definitely the same for the two

Sensor

Both still cannot sense where the cash lies so every other thing is a match for the two devices.



Aha! If you had thought that J8 Boom was stingy with a 3000mAh non-removable battery powering a 8 core processor, you would be dumbfounded when you see the 2500mAh of Tecno W4. Both devices promises to enhance the performance of the battery with their respective new OS but to be on the safe side, you will definitely need a power bank for either of the devices you eventually go for.

Dual Standby Micro Sim on both slot so it is finally time to throw away the Mini Sim jacket

Extras

That big boom black and red headphone you see on most Tecno J8 adverts is really enticing and it is good for its value but buying the Tecno W4 with certainly leave you some extra cash to get any headphone or earpiece that you like at lesser price. And you also get the charming breathing lights (lol) fast charge (15 mins for 8 hours usage “theoretically), Ultra Low power saving mode on J8 Boom
